INVISIBLE CHILDREN ROADIE.

Hi friends.

So I have this wonderful opportunity to go across the US in a van with 3 other teammates to spread awareness about the atrocious human rights violations that are happening today in Northern Uganda through documentary screenings and selling merch. You might have heard of this non-profit organization, Invisible Children, through their various events such as The Rescue (2009), Displace Me (2007) Global Night Commute (2006), their Schools for Schools program, and others.

Here's a short video elaborating a lil bit more about what i'll be doing from August til December:

I have to raise money to be able to EAT :-) So if you want to JOIN me in this adventure please donate by clicking the DONATE button to the right of this post... every little bit counts!

OR send a check to:

WHITNEY'S BAAAACK!!! The DIVA is back!

Whitney Houston's cover for I Look To You, her newest album in 7 years (!) since the 2002 flop, Just Whitney!

Here she is (with longtime friend & mentor, Clive Davis) at the recent Pre-album listening for press, media, and celebs (in NY)... looking FIERCE and her usual diva-licious self! No crack-life and no Bobby Brown!

WERRRRK girrrl. I hope her new album (dropping Sept 1, 2009) is FABULOUS.

Loves,
Marsh.

Berry Picking, Line Dancing, Violation by a drunk bum... ALL in Portland, Oregon.

3 NEW things I've experienced in my life while being in Portland...

1. Berry Picking.
So berry picking is surprisingly WAY harder than you think it is. Or maybe its just harder for me b/c i'm such a spoiled city slicker but whatever... it was still an experience. :-) I was decked out in knee-high rubber "fisherman" galoshes and had a bucket to collect all the raspberries/boysenberries. Can we just talk about how STUPID bloodsucking mosquitoes and irritating gnats are?????? Why why why were these wretched creatures created on this earth? To abuse us? Whatevs. Oh and THORNS. Thorns are super LAME.

2. Line Dancing.
Went line dancing for the FIRST time in my life with Aly and some of her friends at the Bushwhackers Bar in the Tualitin area of Portland. I was the ONLY non-Caucasian person in that place (except for ONE African-American gal who peaced out 2 seconds later) FULL of old boonie dudes in cowboy hats n' boots... and... it was DEAD. Like absolutely DEAD. It was pretty empty and just very awkward. People danced in sporadic, erratic movements... and whenever a "today" song came on that WASN'T country... the dance floor emptied out and it ended up being Aly, my friends, and I. SAD. awk-action.

Unfortunately, I've never gone with my Biola friends when they went to Incahoots for line dancing... and I definitely wanna give line-dancing another try. :-)

3. Violated.

Downtown Portland is a mixture of beauty and filth. Here's the filth part: I pretty much got MOLESTED by a dirtydrunknasty old man right outside of the Voodoo Doughnut shop... he proceeded to caress my left ear and whispered "pretty little f**ker" under his breath and gave me a "hug" before I could react out of my shock. Sick, sick, DISGUSTING man. Traumatized, to say the LEAST.

* on the flip side, Powell's bookstore which happens to take up an entire city block in downtown Portland (and is 3 stories high) is every bookworm (or closeted bookworm)'s dream. I could literally spend an entire week there just saturating myself in the wonderful world of literature. Love.
** Oregon is trees, trees, and more trees. I've never seen so much GREENERY in my life. Love it though... the air is almost alien to me... so... fresh. and CLEAN. and green. Organicness. Yes, please.
*** Sushiland with Kat & Zach in Bridgeport. Rolls for only $1 dollar... they're most expensive plate is only 3 bones. 'Nuff said.

till next time,

Marshall.

Trust.

It's one of the THE most important things in a relationship for me.   And when I find out that people tell other people about me that are SPECIFICALLY my own personal shit...  it riles me up a little bit.

And that is all folks.

28 Random Things about my strange life.

Here goesssssssssss...

1. I am absolutely obsessed with Mariah Carey- I have every single one of her albums dating back since her debut album in 1990 up to E=MC2 just this past 2008. I even have rare Spanish versions of her songs. I have 3 of her live concert DVDs. It's pretty ridiculous. Sigh. Don't judge me.

2. I am an avid lover of pop music of all kinds. Especially the teeniebopper 90's. Yeap. I'm a sucker for Britney, *N Sync, Spice Girls (my first CD ever was... their "Spice World" album), Justin Timberlake, TLC, BSB, J.Lo, Christina Ag, Whitney, Brandy, The 90s Jacksons aka Janet and Michael, Destiny's Child, Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch, etc... dude... remember Christian pop: Stacie Orrico, Plumb, Rachael Lampa, Plus One, Out of Eden, Raze (I was SO into them back in 7th grade)? Anyone?

3. I fainted on the toilet in junior high... twice. Ask me about it later... Maybe I'll tell you the story.

4. I missed out on some very VITAL (stereotypical) Asian genes such as: a) Math. Arithmetic and I are like oil and water... we just DON'T mix. I can't do math to save my life. It gives me a headache and I get super irritated. b) Spicy foods. (Especially Asian spices... I'm a tad better at Latin spices) I just can't do it. I get sweaty, I start coughing, and then get mad heartburn half-an-hour later. I wish I could. I order my soon-do-boo (tofu soup) "white," I don't eat kimchee, I get my popcorn chicken at Guppy's Teahouse completely non-spicy... All the waitresses at Asian (especially Korean) restaurants give me weird looks, shake their heads and sigh at me when they find out I can't eat spicy stuff. Sometimes they laugh at me thinking I'm joking. But I'm not. Sad face.

5. I'm deathly allergic to cats. And kittens. They make my eyes water, sneeze nonstop, and if they scratch me, I swell up like the blueberry girl from Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory...

6. When I was young, my parents didn't let me watch Saturday morning cartoons. So I would sneak as quietly as I could to the TV room and would turn on the TV and watch the cartoons starting at like 8 or 9 in the morning... I put the volume at like 4 or sometimes 5 cause any higher would wake up the parentals... Oh it was glorious: Captain Planet, (the OG) X-Men, Spider Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Fantastic Four, Power Rangers... But there were many times when I would get caught by my parents. Sometimes my younger brothers would join me. Those were some good times. It was SO worth getting caught for.

7. I am a bookworm especially in fantasy and science fiction. No one really knows. I've read all the Boxcar Children and the Animorphs books. A Wrinkle in Time trilogy. Ender's Game is an AMAZING novel. So are ALL the Harry Potters... totally grew up with Dumbledore, Hermione, Ron, Hagrid, etc., and voraciously devoured them whenever J.K. Rowling put out a new one... I've even read Ella Enchanted BEFORE it became a movie.

8. Rambo's Taco Truck in Eagle Rock. or King Taco. Amazing. I always go for the weird, disgustingly sounding meats: cabeza, lengua, tripas= head, tongue, and tripe. SO SCRUMPTIOUS AND DELICIOUS. Try it sometime.

9. I really, really, really like Disney movies. Especially the musical-ish ones: Aladdin, Hercules, Beauty & The Beast, Little Mermaid, Mulan (go Asians! haha), Pocahontas, Sword in the Stone, Lion King, Jungle Book, Rescuers Down Under, Emperor's New Groove... just to name a few.

10. Back in 1st grade, I had a teacher named Mrs. Redulabich. Yes. I swear I did. But I was in 1st grade. I didn't know anything. But I do remember her name to this day. I remember we had these little slips with the days of the week on it at the start of every week and if your discipline color card wasn't flipped by the end of Thursday, you would get to attend a party on Friday, eat ice cream and watch Wee Sing videos. I distinctly remember only going to those parties ONCE in 1st grade. I was so happy. But alas, never again. My color card was always flipped to red (the 1st offense) and sometimes yellow (time out) for being disruptive. Sigh. Super lame.

11. I love cheese. Does that mean I'm gonna be lactose intolerant later on in life? I hope not.

12. I used to spin around in the living room in my tighty whiteys for hours and hours when I was like 4. Til about age 7. My parents have videotapes of me doing exactly that, sweat pouring forth endlessly...

13. I love to poo. I read on the can, pray on the can, faint on the can, have deep conversations on the phone... all on the can... it's just so peaceful. I might like dying on the can... like Elvis.

14. I really like watching "How I Met Your Mother" and "Friends."

15. I'm allergic to melons... watermelons, cantaloupes, etc. My tongue/mouth gets all itchy and my throat starts to slightly swell up, and then I feel like throwing up. But it's soooooo good. Sigh. Oh same thing with raw avocados. Except when they're in guacamole form I'm fine. Weird.

16. I want to live in Hawaii for a year. And Manhattan-NYC for 2 years.

17. I was obsessed with comic books when I was a boy... especially the X-Men. Confession: I used to shoplift X-Men comics underneath my shirt when I was in elementary school b/c my parents would NEVER buy them for me, or let me read them. They though the X-Men were the Devil... even though they saved the world. Countless times.

18. I have a dream that someday I'll get several large tattoos on my body. Except I'm a big fat WUSS in the pain department so... yea... it might only be a dream... until I grow a pair... and just DO IT. (p.s. I have NO IDEA what tattoos I'd be getting...ideas?)

19. I don't know how to drive a stick-shift car. I wanna learn so frickin' bad... Someone teach me, please?

20. I want to adopt at least 2 children from another country, particularly eastern Europe... I can't wait! I hope I'm a good father.

21. I absolutely detest, abhor, loathe scary movies. But I'm more scared of scary real-life documentaries such as the Holocaust, escapees' accounts of North Korea, war footage, etc. Since I have a pretty vivid imagination, I dream very graphic nightmares... and I hate it.

22. When I was a wee child, I used to be captivated by fireworks. I guess I still am. Especially the ones from Disneyland. I was also obsessed with the "Dancing Waters" show at the Disneyland Hotel when we used to live in Anaheim. We used to go every Wednesday night. And while my younger brothers played with toy cars, I would make my mom draw me the exact replicas of fireworks and watershows on paper with crayons or color pencils. Again. and again. And again. I was strange as a child. Yesssssssssssssss.

23. I hate celery. I detest the smell of it or the taste of it. It makes me want to puke.

24. I was a huge baby when I came out of my mother's womb. And a very, very, very fat one at that. If you see my baby pictures, I had rolls of fat to where I had fat sleeves. But I was oh-so-freaking cute. I used to be super difficult to change diapers for... my grandma would get so angry... but how could you ever REALLY be mad at your baby grandson? haha... sigh. I miss my grandma. R.I.P. Halmonee.

25. I have this dream to be a famous, world-class, all-around entertainer. Singer, dancer, actor extraordinaire. Grammy's. Oscar's. MTV VMA Moonmen. It will happen someday. Very, very soon. I can't wait.

26. I fart. A lot. I think I got it from my dad. He farts EVERYWHERE. In public, in private, wherever. He has no shame... I used to be SUPER embarrassed about it until college when I started doing it. You have no idea how incredibly freeing it was. Now I follow in my old man's footsteps... and do it shamelessly.

27. I really really really like gummi bears especially the Heide Candy Company Brand... I've only tried the Haribo (original gummi bear maker) Brand one two days ago in Heather Olson's room.

28. I like awkward moments. They make me laugh. hehehe.

A New Day?

Being at a crossroads in your life can be extremely frustrating. And then adding "God's will for your life" into the mix can make it even more chaotic in your already befuddled brain. So my two options are:

* Stay at Biola, continue my education, do SOS another year as a possible Crew Leader, keep Xopoc going strong (while slowly handing over the reins), immerse myself in the amazing Biola community, and hangout with amazing people suchlike Caitlin Shirley... oh and rack up my loans to the MAX.

* Take a semester off from school, go FULL FORCE in pursuing my dreams of being a wildly successful singer/dancer/actor extraordinaire, AUDITION AUDITION AUDITION, hang out/rub shoulders/network with amazingly talented people...

So...

God, what do you want me to do?
I personally WANT to do option B... but is that the best one for me now? I am 22 flippin' years old and time's running out for me to pursue the career that I've always wanted but never had the time to do...
At the same time, I don't wanna peace out from this community that I've grown to love, respect, and cherish...
But I know for a fact that my brain/mind/heart isn't in it... in terms of the academic aspect of my education. I'm done writing meaningless papers, doing tedious busy work, and the like. At least I'm done right now. Checked out. Maybe... I'll pick it back up when I finish my education later? I dunno. What am I even saying?

Effffffffff.

Lord, give me a sign, a vision, a dream, SOMETHING. You seem to all the time with my mom, Vineyard people, etc... Use someone... please?

Thanks.

-Marsh.

Confusion.

I hate being confused.
